Once upon a time sleeping bags were all dark blue or green or black with plaid linings. Now though, sleeping bags for boys come in all kinds of colors and themes. There are bags featuring frogs, cars, dinosaurs, pirates, farms, all kinds of sports, and even planets, and the colors are lighter and brighter. If you’re worried that your ten-year-old will balk at dinosaurs or firemen, but still get lost in a full-size bag, maybe one of the more mature choices available will suit him better. Keep in mind that many of these sleeping bags are not intended for outdoor use, and check the labels when you’re shopping for camping gear. We’ve selected three camping bags to highlight here.
The Montego Kids bag is good for summer camping in warm climates, or indoor use at sleepovers. The rectangular bag is roomy enough for restless sleepers and the polyester taffeta shell is lined with soft cotton in either a dinosaur or camouflage print. For keeping that bag clean between the car and the tent, it comes with its own storage sack.
While the outside of this bag is dark blue, there’s nothing drab about the 100% cotton lining covered with brightly colored rainforest frogs. The Slumberloft HQ insulation makes this bag suitable for summer camping down to +40 degrees F. Campers will like the included pillow, and parents will like the attached hood that also functions as a carrier. Just roll the bag up into the hood and you’re ready to go. No more searching for a storage sack.
If your boy feels he’s too old for dinosaurs and frogs, this may be the sleeping bag you’re looking for. The solid blue polyester shell and soft grey cotton lining convey maturity. The quilt-through construction is strong and long-lasting and the 100% polyester insulation gives this bag a rating for +50 degrees F. Fits campers up to about five feet tall. When you strike camp just roll up the bag and slip the elastic straps around to hold it.
While many camping enthusiasts enjoy the leave-it-all-at-home escape that camping offers, others aren’t as fond of roughing it.
