The Ultimate Water Filtration in Your RV

Carbon Filters

It used to be that one would buy a recreational vehicle (RV) to use mainly for camping or vacations, but these days more and more people use their travel vehicle as a permanent motor home. Living in a recreational vehicle is a privilege only a chosen few have.

It is probably one of the most comfortable and convenient lifestyles. But we are not going to talk about lifestyles; we are going to talk about RV water problems. Have you ever had contaminated water while you were out traveling? It can be very disconcerting and potentially dangerous. Water contamination is the source of many water-borne diseases and can lead to fatal disorders.

If you are living in an RV, how would you solve the problem of good drinking water? After all, you would need water for cooking, cleaning, drinking and many other purposes. So how can you fight an enemy, you cannot see. It is simple! Water filtration is the answer! This is also known as water purification and is a process of removing contaminants and making it safe for human consumption.

Methods of Filtration
There are times when you might be driving your RV out of town or for a picnic and you might run out of water. This is a situation faced by many RV owners. What happens then? You will find water sources nearby. Is that water really safe for you and your family? Water sources, out in the vast expanse could be contaminated by bacteria or any of the many contaminants, which are not visible to the naked eye. If you have a water filtration system on your RV, then your clean water problems should be over. All you have to do is pass the water through the filtration process and viola! You have clean drinking water.

Reverse Osmosis Filters

Water can be filtered in various ways but the two most common practices are filtration through activated carbon or reverse osmosis. Carbon has a better ability to reduce odors, chemicals, contaminants and bad taste. Although it is very effective all by itself, yet at times it is used in conjunction with reverse osmosis. This is done to completely remove the microorganisms and bacteria, which otherwise cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Reverse Osmosis on the other hand is also a very effective process that helps in removing impurities like chlorine, asbestos, radioactive particles, lead and many toxic metals and substances. When combined with carbon, they become a very strong team for removing contaminants. Apart from these two, there are other methods of filtration like boiling the water, distillation and chemical filtration. Boiling of the water is an effective way to kill microorganisms, as they cannot survive the boiling point temperature.

Water Distiller

Distillation also includes boiling but it is a complete process in itself. It is a process of separating and purifying liquid through boiling and then condensing the vapors to produce pure water. Lastly, chemical filtration uses iodine or chlorine. Iodine is effective with bacteria, protozoa and viruses. Chlorine is a good cleaning agent but comes with side effects. It can damage internal body organs or cause inflammation or allergy. One of the safest and most acknowledged ways of having pure water without the side effects is through reverse osmosis.
